When I think of Valentine's Day, I often think of hearts, chocolate, and love - and what's more pure and unconditional than the love of a parent to their child. It doesn't matter that as mothers we're often fueled by coffee and responsibilty, but as soon as our kiddos need us, we're there with bells on. That's one of the beautiful things about this photoshoot - seeing the joy and admiration of a mother towards her son.

Often mothers don't get the opportunity to be a part of the pictures, as you always need someone to be behind the camera taking the picture. Being able to allow mums to step into the shot, and have a moment captured in time where she's present and seen, is one of my favorite things about my job.

As a single mother for over a decade, I often look back at pictures I've taken of my son and feel a ping of sadness that I'm not a part of them. When he's older and is looking back at himself growing up through pictures, the lack of presense of me in the images removes me from the memory. Having experienced that myself, it's part of my mission, and goal, to get as many mothers as possible to be included in the moment, the memory, and the joy of the session without having to be behind the scenes.

Seeing joy on a child's face can easily light up rooms. The safety and comfort they have simply by just grabbing their parent's hand. It's such a pure and delightful thing that exists within them.

During this session we had to do quite a bit of running around to keep up with this spunky toddler, but that's part of the fun! Getting those candid pictures of life unfolding before you. Life isn't always perfect and neat - it's messy and wild and full of uncertainty. Capturing life as it unfolds is keeping it true to what's going on in the now. In a few years time, it will be a whole new set of adventure and curiosity - so being able to capture these moments of exactly what they are helps keep those reminders of all the ups and downs of each stage.
